Cream Cheese Cookies

My friend Megan Smith made these from a classic Southern Living recipe. The picture honestly cannot do their delicious richness justice.

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 (3 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg yold
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Candied cherries or pecan halves
Cream butter & cream cheese.
Gradually add sugar, beating until light & fluffy.
Add egg yolk, beating well.
Add flour & vanilla; mix until blended.
Chill dough in refrigerator at least 1 hour.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place on greased cookie sheets.
Gently press candied cherry or pecan into each cookie.
Bake at 325 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
Yield: about 7 dozen.

  1. Shouldn’t that be 8oz instead of 3oz?
3oz sounds too little for 21/2 cup flour.

  3. These were AMAZING. Thanks for the recipe.

RE: 8oz, I used 8oz and they came out a little doughy, I assume because there was more moisture to bake out and I feared burning them. No one minded the gooeyness and I would recommend using all 8oz.
