  1. boris pasternak called february, the month of “black spring.” here is a recipe to lift the drearies with warmth and cheer.
make gingerbread, and you will make a memory!

    dark, rich gingerbread

    1 cup dark molasses
    1 well-beaten egg
1 stick of butter (1/4 lb melted)
    1 teaspoon of ginger
    pinch of cloves
    1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved
in a cup of hot water
    2 cups of flour
    1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee
1 tablespoon of dark, grated semisweet chocolate

combine all of the ingredients in the order given.
beat well and spoon into a greased and lightly floured 8 inch square and shallow baking pan.
bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes.
done when it is firm to the touch.
cool…..serve with vanilla ice cream and apple sauce.
yummy in the deeps of winter!!!
    enjoy!

  2. Today, I’d skip the coffee and go right for the whiskey.

The gingerbread recipe looks good. Must try sometime.
