  1. Well that seems patently unfair.

  2. Well, you could buy it now, wait for it to get stale, and on April 17th, make torrijas for breakfast.

  3. I’m starting to think that Jews make up the majority of IFA readers.

I imagine that challah to have a soft, fluffy interior with a crust with just the right amount of crispiness (the bottom) and bite. If I didn’t hate the word “toothsome” it would work here.

  4. mmmmm!!!!
i could smell that fragrant challah all the way across the country!

baking a challah is a mystical experience.
in chabad pre~schools, each friday, the children get to stir the dough and braid their own little challahs.
in the school i used to work in, we would bake their fifty little challahs each friday!
it was a beautiful tradition for the children and the school smelled so warm and fragrant, a beautiful prelude to shabbat.
did you know that when very religious people bake a challah, they take a small piece of the dough, bake it, burn it and discard it in memory of the destruction of the temple?
also, special prayers for people are prayed over the challah.
preparing and baking a challah is a mystical experience….a gift to the spirit and the senses …and then we get to pray over it and eat it up!!

    challah and honey sandwiches:-)

  5. No, you can’t buy it now, you’re not supposed to own any leavened bread during the holiday.

I sitll think the Bagel post was crueler than this one.
