Homemade bread, while time-consuming, is awesome when it first comes out of the oven. I’m jealous of gottalittlespacetofill! This photo, as usual, comes from the IFA Food Porn photo pool.

  1. The smell of freshly baked bread is only rivaled by freshly ground coffee. I have been baking my own bread for years now and recently purchased a breadmaker machine. It costs slightly more to make your own bread but it is worth it!

  2. I question that baking bread is time-consuming or costs more, especially with simpler items. My baguettes cost about $.50 in ingredients – and when making 4 at a time, I spend probably 15 minutes total actually making it. Sure, there’s waiting for it when it’s rising or baking, but I don’t really feel like that counts because I’m going to be home at that time anyway.

  3. There’s are an infinite number of variations on Mark Bittman’s “No-Knead, Dutch-Oven” bread recipe.

If you’ve got a heavy dutch oven/cocotte, you can’t go wrong. Add chopped green olives, rosemary, and Parmesan and we’re talking dessert territory, here.

  4. Nothing beats the fresh smell of bread. We use to have a bakery and in the morning it smell so yummy..
